Tent/Closet – We do not recommend anything but a tent to start. You can move it, alter it and clean it really easy.
Cannabis is smoked and ingested, it is best grown in a controlled and clean environment. Closets require modifications for potential venting and wiring which is not simply accomplished.
If closets are not properly painted, sealed and controlled they can become moldy/mildew ridden areas which is detrimental to you and your families health.

Quality Seeds – We have heard quite a bit of feedback on the seeds available from Jimmy’s Cannabis and highly recommend them for seed purchases.
When it comes to seeds there are a few key items to take into consideration.
- Feminized – We always go for Feminized seeds, you really do not want to waste your time growing a plant that is going to be male. The pollen will get everywhere and seed filled buds will follow.
- Autoflowering – This is a plant which will automatically go into the bud cycle, normal plants need to get a 12 hr day / 12 hr night cycle to trigger them into budding. If you want higher production or bigger plants, Autoflower will not get you there. The plant shown above with the bald guy behind it was started from seed in early March and transplanted outdoors in early June. That plant was harvested Late October, 8 months cradle to grave.
- CBD vs THC – you need to decide what the end use of your plant is going to satisfy as far as CBD vs THC. Is it recreational use or medicinal you are after?
- Indica vs Sativa – There are 2 main varieties to look at when choosing a strain for growing. Indica strains will generally relax you and aid with sleep and comfort. Sativa is more for promoting energy and getting you off the couch and doing stuff.
Containers – Containers for Indoor growing need to be well draining and allow for good breathing. Oxygen is important to the plants roots and Fabric Containers will allow you to ensure your plants are the healthiest they can be. If you want the best possible plants, you need to feed your soil instead of thinking about feeding your plant.

Proper Super Soil – Super Soils are required for the best Organic weed possible. Hydroponics and Nutrient methods require a neutral growing medium such as coco coir or Peat based mixes.

Lighting – We recommend CFL, T5HO and LED’s for many reasons. (1 gram/per watt possible, expect 1 gram per 2 watts to start). Red Barn Farm has lighting options which are easily expandable and allow for adding watts as they are needed based on plant growth. Proper lighting solutions result in low heat and healthy plants which will not be burned by over lighting. Yes, you can have too much light to grow properly. Cool lighting also helps to reduce the need for having an air conditioner or crazy ventilation system in the growing space.

Circulation Fan – A small circulating fan is a must for multiple reasons. Even movement of air will push your CO2 around the space, even out temperatures, inhibit powdery mildew from forming on leaves which contact each other and strengthen the plants because of movement. A fan which is too big will actually cause wind burn to the plants.

CO2 – Next to light, food and proper temperature, CO2 is the next most important factor for success. There is a variety of ways to accomplish getting the proper amounts of CO2 into your growing environment. Compact generators are available and can increase yields easily by 20 percent. If your growing area is already CO2 deficient the increase in yield can be substantially higher.

Nutrients or Organic Foods – Today’s nutrients are far superior from Nutrients from past years. New style nutrients require minimal flushing prior to harvest and can easily supply every element required by plants to grow healthy while maximizing end yields. Organic foods have also been recently created which deliver optimum results that yield tremendous harvests.

PH reading/correcting – Proper PH is essential to ensure that plants can make use of available food/nutrients in the soil or grow media. If PH is not correct. Your plants will go into Nutrient Lockup which will inhibit absorption of available nutrients in the soil/media.

Heat Mat/Controller – A heatmat and controller is not necessarily required for growing in a confined area but that all depends on the environment outside of the tent or grow space.

Harvest Tools – This is the part you have been working towards for the last few months. There are steps taken prior to cutting flower off the plants and preparing it for consumption. We have everything you need and guidance for completing this task.

Ailment Supplies – When talking about ailments, we are referring to Plant Ailments. Most things can be avoided by being proactive during growing. Any other ailments can be dealt with as they appear. Whether it is certain Nutrients lacking or Pests and Bugs, rest assured that pretty much everything can be dealt with. We are building a guide on this site which will refer you to products that have required Elements in them. Once you determine which Element is lacking you can go to a page to get a list of products and values for each of those Elements. Red Barn Farm has started a paper copy of this in the store and we will be adding that entire list right here on the site. See that page here if you want to check it out.
