Fabric Pots not Plastic Ones (or Clay)

It’s really not a big secret as to how well things grow in fabric pots compared to plastic pots.

The thing is, lots of people just do not know about fabric containers and why they are superior.

Air Pruning

When roots reach the edge of a Fabric Pot, they’re exposed to air and become dehydrated. The dehydrated root tip stops growing and sends out a bunch more lateral roots. Think about what happens when you prune a branch on a bush or shrub in your yard. All of the branches before it start growing more. This is the same as what happens to the roots.

Root/Soil Oxygenation

Plants need CO2 to live, most people know this even if they do not know why or how the plant uses it. Oxygen for the roots is just as important as CO2 is for the plant. Aside from feeding the roots, oxygen also is required for the living organisms in the soil. It is not easy to feed that needed oxygen to the roots/soil of a plant which is trapped in a plastic pot.

No More Overwatering

The results of overwatering can be root rot, fungus gnats and other of nasty pests which are detrimental to plants. Fabric pots make almost impossible to overwater a plant. If a fabric pot is sitting in a catch saucer there is a chance of the aforementioned things happening. Even a fabric pot needs to be elevated a bit from the bottom of a drain saucer. Proper use make overwatering a problem which should no longer exist.

Heat Stress

In any solid container, roots are vulnerable to heat buildup. One of the ways which fabric pots cool is by evaporation of moisture on the bag itself. This is much like perspiration on a human. As we perspire, the evaporation of that perspiration is a cooling action.

Root Pouch (Chacoal Line)

These are very affordable fabric type pots which state single use but can be re-uused.
