Foliar Feeding is best done in the morning around an hour before the lights come on. We are referring to the plants morning, not any specific time of day.
This is the period when the small pores in the leaf bottoms (stomata) are open.
The optimum temperature should be right around 72 F (22 C) for the plant to be able to properly absorb Foliar Sprays.
These thoughts may have you asking how you are going to properly accomplish the task in the dark? The answer to that question is a Safe Work Light just like the one pictured below.
If we are only considering the temperature of the plant and the stomata being open it would make sense that the days end would also be a suitable time to perform the task.
The problem we have with Foliar Feeding at the end of the day is that we do not like having too much moisture on plants going onto the nighttime as mold potential could increase.
Doing this in the morning prior to lights coming on allows some absorption time from the plant to drink in the goodness. The heat of the day helps to dry off any residual moisture and decreases chances for mold and mildew.
Foliar Feeding directly onto buds is not recommended. This can easily lead to mold and Mildew problems.
Foliar Feeding can be as much as 20 times more effective at nutrient delivery than feeding into soil.
Although not a substitute for healthy soil, Foliar Sprays can be beneficial when a plant is suffering from certain deficiencies. This direct feeding when the plant is lacking in something particular allows for more immediate delivery of nutrients.
Do not just focus on the underside of the leaves because of the stomata, the entire surface of the leaves are able to benefit from a Foliar spray.
There are certain products which are safe to apply with the lights on, these are specialty items which were engineered to be safe daytime use products.
Here is one of those products described below Optic Foliar Overgrow
OVERGROW will also correct deficiencies and provide increased performance! Match that with the ability to spray in full sunlight, with no burning or the need to spray the undersides of leaves, and you have the only all-in-one spray with no negative side effects from leaf burn to residuals.
